When Inglewood Park Cemetery reached out and asked us to lead the renovation of the former headquarters for the late Lakers owner Jerry Buss, we were excited to be engaged for such a dynamic site in the city. Sitting on a major intersection in the city, with historic downtown to the west and the new entertainment zone featuring the L.A. Forum, Sofi stadium, YouTube theater, the NFL network’s headquarters, Hollywood Park Casino, and the site for the new Clippers Stadium, the site offered a highly visible location for an updated office building. One additional opportunity and challenge for the project is that the proposed Inglewood Transit Connector connecting the Crenshaw metro line and the entertainment detail will turn 90 degrees around the site at a height of 40’ in the air.

AERO brought a fresh contemporary design to the facade while increasing the glazing to bring more light into the interior. The team also worked to establish a new sense of placemaking around the exterior to unify the grounds by adding landscape and signage elements throughout. AERO also helped the client to minimize the potential impact of eminent domain seizure being proposed at the corner of the property for the new people mover. But, also realizing the potential of the new people mover, a building “crown” was studied to incorporate signage on the roof to be visible from the trains.
